American Legion Department of Missouri Honors Rep. David Day as Legislator of the Year

July 14, 2007

Jefferson City – For his many contributions and efforts made to support the veterans of Missouri, the American Legion presented Rep. David Day, R-Dixon, with its Legislator of the Year Award during a ceremony this past weekend.  Rep. Day was honored during the American Legion’s annual conference at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City on Saturday, July 14th.

In his comments to the attendees at the ceremony Day said “I made a commitment to our veterans and members of the armed forces the day I took the oath of office as a state representative and I will continue to work each and every day to make certain they receive the care and services they deserve. Our veterans have given so much to our nation and it is our responsibility, our duty to now give back to them.  I am extremely proud of this honor and I hope our veterans realize I am always here for them should they need me.”

As Chair of the House Veterans Committee, Rep. Day has been an instrumental figure in securing the passage of legislation that assists veterans. This year he took the lead in gaining passage of legislation that ends the state’s tax on military pensions. He also played a key role in securing an additional $2.8 million in funding for Missouri Veterans Homes to help them provide additional staff and open more beds for veterans in need.

Rep. Day also was honored in June by the Missouri VFW for his efforts to assist veterans by being named the VFW Legislator of the Year.
